As the grandmother of 10, soon to be 11, grandchildren and 1 great grandchild I found your post to be true. The youngsters in the family range in age from 3 to 21 years of age. Even in that age range there is a difference. The older children tend to be less involved with family and more involved in being their own person. Somewhere along the way the parents of the younger children have seen the dsconnect and are involving me in more or the family dynamic. The fault does not weigh entirely on the shoulders of the parents. As the matriarch of this small clan it is up to me to remain involved and relevent. I cannot sit back and wait for ‘family’ to take shape. I must help these multiple generations to function as the one generation we are all experiencing.
I agree with your view of the church dividing its congregations into categories that rarely if ever meet together. Unfortunately it is up to the local congregations to change this division and I don’t see that happening any time soon.
Bravo to you, Laura, for taking the lead and setting an example for your family to engage with one another and grow together.
You’re right about the church. Individual congregations will have to change, but we can keep the dialogue going and challenge our church leaders to think more biblically. The Spirit will do the work if we are faithful to speak the truth. We might find area of influence in the church that we can make as individuals. Christ is still building His church…that much we can be assured.
You have provided us with a great challenge. I professionally Christian Clowned throughout Europe from 1997 thru 2005 (have retired since) mostly meeting with 200 kids at a time who were 6th graders, teaching them about Christ. What I learned is that they are alot smarter then we ever were due to the computer age and we need to engage them and ask them questions! It’s OK to agree to disagree! Today’s kids want to be treated like children but intellectually stimulated like adults. We need to talk about Christ in their lives in a way that is relevant TODAY. I learned to do that in a unique way that really turned the lightbulbs on. Stimulate their minds with thoughts about Christ! It’s fun!
Lee, thanks for the good word… and thank you for the intentional way you have engaged with the younger generations so they could understand the truth.
